We are again carrying out our very successful 'Transition Project' as
part of our recent successful bid through The Football Conference
Trust and this will be our third cohort of young people
to undertake this and we are delighted how it continues to really make a
difference to our local community. The eight month project has been
set up in order to reduce the fear and anxiety that sometimes can occur when
moving from Primary School to High School. This year the group have been
selected from Adswood, Bridge Hall and Cale Green Primary School and in
consultation with each School Headteacher. We have set up a calendar of events
to run on the last Saturday of each month and activities range
from Bowling, Wall Climbing, Orienteering, Bikeability Training
along with confidence building workshops from our excellent Learning Mentor.
Along with the funding we received from The Football Conference Trust,
we also have great support from SMBC Travel Co-Ordination Team who provide all
participants with a free bike on completion of the project. The project
concludes with a presentation ceremony for the young people and they
are presented their bikes by local dignitaries. The project has received
excellent feedback and really improves children's confidence and makes their
'Transition' to High School as smooth as possible.
