Great programme of activities organised by Stockport County Community Foundation and the the Equity Foundation. In partnership they delivered a project to a wide social and ethnic group from amongst the Equity Housing Groups tenants. The aims of the project were to extol the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and improve the social skills of those taking part. The participating children took part in different activities over a three day period.

Day 1  The group discussed the the benefits of a healthy lifestyle focusing on the reasons to follow a balanced diet and partake in regular physical exercise. Everybody was encouraged to join in the discussion and swap ideas. We were very impressed by the enthusiasm of the children.

Day 2  Peak Mountaineering provided today’s challenge. The youngsters had to work together to complete an orienteering course. Points on a map had to be followed to reach a final destination. Once again, outstanding teamwork was displayed.

Day 3  The final day was split into a morning and afternoon session. In the morning the children received a varied programme of football skills training from the Community Foundation coaches at Stockport Powerleague. The afternoon was taken up with an unexpected and very well received trip to Parrs Wood for tenpin bowling. The bowling excursion was a reward in recognition of the fantastic attitude and behaviour exhibited by the youngsters over the three days.

As the day came to an end the children were each given a ‘goody bag’ which included a family ticket to see the mighty Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

Matthew Bailey the Assistant Community Foundation Manager said “This project was a huge success with all participants learning new skills and interacting well with new friends from a variety of backgrounds. I would like to thank the Equity Foundation who provided the funding and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Anna Clewlow Customer Engagement coordinatorIt’s just great to work in collaboration with the local football club to offer health & wellbeing activities for our customers. Just another example of how the Equity Foundation funding has made a difference to the community.”
