We were pleased to
welcome Brian Lee MBE, Chairman of the National League Trust and President
of the National League and Sue O'Brian, The National League Trust Project Manager to the Stockport County Vs Chorley fixture. They presented the Community Club of the Year Award to Dave Wardle – Community Foundation Manager,
Ian Lees (Community Foundation Chairman), Helen Foster-Grime (Community
Foundation Vice Chairman), Mark Sanderson, Andy Calvert (Community Foundation Trustee/Director)
has received this award because of the breadth of their programme, and the
impact they have had locally despite being in part of the country where there
are a number of professional clubs running community activity. Their work
includes a large schools programme, working in 65 schools and involving a
number of club players and their first team manager, walking football
activities for people with disabilities and intervention projects. This
includes work to divert young people from anti-social behaviour in an isolated
rural community, and a transition programme helping vulnerable children through
the period of moving from primary to secondary schools. The National League Trust
has been pleased to support their work with regular funding over the last five
The National League Trust is a charity that offers grant aid
to National League clubs to support and develop their community projects. Over £5m has been distributed so far. This money comes from the Premier League and
the Professional Footballers Association, who have committed to support the
Trust until 2019. They each contribute
to an annual donation of £1.2m.
59 National League clubs are currently running projects and
receiving funding from the Trust.
