We were pleased to welcome Brian Lee MBE, Chairman of the National League Trust and President of the National League and Sue O'Brian, The National League Trust Project Manager to the Stockport County Vs Chorley fixture. They presented the Community Club of the Year Award to Dave Wardle Community Foundation Manager, Ian Lees (Community Foundation Chairman), Helen Foster-Grime (Community Foundation Vice Chairman), Mark Sanderson, Andy Calvert (Community Foundation Trustee/Director)

The Foundation has received this award because of the breadth of their programme, and the impact they have had locally despite being in part of the country where there are a number of professional clubs running community activity. Their work includes a large schools programme, working in 65 schools and involving a number of club players and their first team manager, walking football activities for people with disabilities and intervention projects. This includes work to divert young people from anti-social behaviour in an isolated rural community, and a transition programme helping vulnerable children through the period of moving from primary to secondary schools. The National League Trust has been pleased to support their work with regular funding over the last five years.

The National League Trust is a charity that offers grant aid to National League clubs to support and develop their community projects. Over 5m has been distributed so far. This money comes from the Premier League and the Professional Footballers Association, who have committed to support the Trust until 2019. They each contribute to an annual donation of 1.2m.

59 National League clubs are currently running projects and receiving funding from the Trust.

We would like to thank Brian Lee, Sue O'Brian and The National League Trust, The Premier League and The PFA for their generous support.

If you would like more information about the work the Community Foundation does, please give the team a call on 0161 286 8888 (Option 3).
