The Community Foundation would like to thank David Hopkins Foundation for their recent presentation of their generous donation of £1,000 that will go towards funding our Children and Adults Disability Football and Multisport Project.

Ian Dixon, from David Hopkins Foundation recently visited the under 16’s Monday disability football training session at Life Leisure, Houldsworth Village in Reddish to watch the group being coached by the Foundations Disability Football coaches Adrian Bates and Matti Oates. Ian was very pleased to see how the group were enjoying themselves, having fun and showing off their skills and very kindly featured in a photo with the team.

Donations of this type are invaluable to our Charitable Foundation and the £1000 will help towards funding the disability projects coaching equipment, teams entrance fees to tournaments and coaching costs. This will help maintain the disability project and the sessions that we currently run which are as follows: -

  • Weekly junior and adult football/multisport coaching sessions.
  • Monthly Ability Counts Tournaments for both junior teams and adult teams.
  • Professional Footballer involvement and half time matches at home games.
  • Volunteering Opportunities.

Adrian Bates, the Foundations Disability Football Development Officer said:

“I would like to thank Ian Dixon and David Hopkins Foundation for kindly supporting our Disability Football and Multisport project with this very kind donation. The project that we run is designed to extend physical activity opportunities for disabled children, young people and adults in Stockport and the local area. This donation will directly benefit those taking part and help make such a positive difference by increasing the opportunity for disabled people to play football and take part in a range of multisport opportunities, helping to promote a healthy lifestyle”

Helen Foster-Grime, Vice Chairman and Director of County’s Community Foundation was delighted and commented:

“This kind award means such a lot to the children and young adults we support at Stockport County. Our project values the exceptional young people involved in disability sport, strengthening their confidence whilst helping them to discover they can meet many challenges through the power of sport. I was particularly privileged to have worked alongside David Hopkins who was such an inspiration to all of us who campaigned to promote the power of sport in transforming lives. David would be so proud of the work Ian and the David Hopkins Foundation team continue in his memory. “
