Stockport County Adults Disability Team were delighted with their success in retaining the Cheshire FA Championship Plate on Saturday in Northwich.
The team travelled to Northwich, the home of the Cheshire FA to take part in the tournament where they faced teams in their group including Trafford Choices, Stalybridge Celtic Whites and Buxton FC. They played with such commitment, skill and a real smile upon their faces throughout the group stage games managing to win 5 and draw 1 game. This set of successful results took the team into the semi-final stage where they faced Stalybridge Celtic Blues in a tight match which they won 1-0 in the final stages of the game. They progressed into the Final to play Pennine United in a very closely fought encounter which ended up at 0-0 at full time. Extra time pursued, and the game was end to end with both teams coming close but the goalkeepers saving shots at either end. Finally County got a break though in the final seconds and clinched the win with a goal that sealed victory and brought the Championship Plate back to Edgeley Park!
Adrian Bates, Disability Football Manager and Coach said:
“Myself and Matti Oates, Coaches for the team are so proud of what the County adult’s disability team has achieved in fabulously lifting the Championship Plate for the second season running. Retaining this Trophy is very special to the players who played with such structure and shape in the games and defended so well that they didn’t concede a goal throughout the tournament. They should be very proud of themselves and take great credit in their success!”
