The children at Ladybridge Primary School love the sporting opportunities provided by Stockport County FC Foundation. Four days a week, they get to play games at lunchtime under the supervision of their County heroes. Each week, they have a fun-packed sports lesson; every half term, a different sport. Each week, those that want, both boys and girls, can sharpen their football skills with the expert guidance of Sam Minihan and the other Foundation members of the coaching team.

SCFC Foundation has been working with Ladybridge Primary School to provide a greater depth of sports since Easter 2017. We were looking for a team that could support our midday staff at dinnertime and encourage our youngsters to engage in physical activity. Our playground is now a hive of activity. We wanted PE lessons delivered by coaches with a wide range of experience. Our children join in our Games sessions with enthusiasm as they know their teachers are the best. Afterschool football club is the best attended club we have; everyone wants to train with professional footballers.

Our links go far deeper than this. SCFC Foundation are working hard to develop a love of football and sport in our school. They have delivered assemblies on making good choices and keeping healthy; they are training our teachers to extend their skills in games. We have been able to send some of our children on the SCFC Soccer Schools during the holidays; an opportunity they would not have afforded without the links we have grown. Each class has visited Edgeley Park: shouting and cheering in Cheadle End; talking tactics in the dressing room.

Mrs Hill – Headteacher says “Stockport County coaches have helped our children to develop good sporting behaviour and attitudes alongside understanding the importance that sport plays in developing healthy lifestyles. I am delighted to have this partnership at Ladybridge.”

And now we also had the privilege on Saturday of playing on the pitch at half time; being cheered on by our mums and dads and friends. This was a day we will remember forever.

Thank you Stockport SCFC Foundation; COME ON COUNTY!
