We wanted to update everyone on the fantastic programme we launched in November last year called Sport In Memories after securing some vital funding from the Postcode Community Trust and Stockport MBC. We have been delighted with the Social Weekly Wellbeing Programme and the positive impact this is making on residents throughout Stockport and our Community. The weekly group runs from 10.00am to 12.00noon every Wednesday and provides an opportunity to socialise and reminisce about your past and present life, sporting experiences and memories. We also offer stress-relieving activities such as gentle yoga and art therapy as well as having the opportunity in making long term life style changes to improve your health and wellbeing. We have welcomed over 60 members since November and average around 25 people attending weekly along with some referral partners each week. The aim of the project is to reach to support people who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation and helping make new and rewarding connections. The programme aims to provide opportunities and support people living with long-term health and mental health conditions and helping them to share their experiences.

We were delighted a few weeks ago to welcome former County player Jarkko Wiss who popped in with his family on their recent holiday over to England from his home land in Finland to share some of his memories and special times at Edgeley Park. Another former player Paul Jones who regularly attends the sessions has commented about the positive impact it his having to him personally and upon those people attending.

We would like to say a special thank you to Ray Pelham from Help the Hatters for kindly volunteering his time each week in helping deliver the programme.
