Blake Slater and his company Local Gardens raised a fantastic £6,100 at their prestigious Charity Ball Fundraiser held at the Alderley Edge Hotel Bar and Restaurant on Saturday 19th October 2019. The fundraising event was in aid of Stockport County Community Foundation’s Disability and Mental Health programme.

The organiser of the event, Blake Slater from Local Gardens was delighted that the dinner raised £4100 which will be partially matched by event supporter, Barclays Bank in Stockport, to provide a charity donation of £2000 with their representatives Gemma Melrose and Lianne Kerfoot attending the event to help with the fundraising from the raffle.

Over 115 people attended the Black-Tie Ball which proved both a fabulous and fun evening of entertainment hosted by Andy Powell who was the MC for the event. Funds were raised on the night through a charity auction and raffle with a range of great prizes including a Stockport County 2018-19 signed framed Champions Shirt, a Manchester City 2018-19 signed Premier League Champions shirt, an England team signed framed shirt, a Zlatan Ibrahimović signed framed photo, two Stockport County Match Day Hospitality seats and family tickets for this Season, a Full corporate day at a Liverpool match at Anfield for four, the Alderley Edge Hotel chef cooking at someone’s home dinner for four people and a host of other great prizes.

Community Foundation Chairman Ian Lees, Manager Dave Wardle and Disability Football and Fundraising Manager Adrian Rigby-Bates were delighted to be joined on the evening by their guests to support the fundraiser. The occasion was very special to Blake Slater who is a big County fan! Blake who has a long-standing connection with the Community Foundation as a youngster attending their holiday soccer schools in the 90’s decided to choose Stockport County Community Foundation as Local Gardens “Charity Partner” to raise funds for their Disability and Mental Health Football Programme.

Blake Slater, Managing Director of Local Gardens said:

“We wanted to innovate and thank our clients by inviting them to a grand charity ball that they would remember, and we felt that it was a great opportunity to support a local charity too. We were very pleased to choose Stockport County Community Foundation because of our long-standing history and connections with the club. The Foundation does some really valuable and rewarding work in the community and the funds raised will go to their Disability Football Programme which is a very worthy cause and one we are proud and humbled to support”.

Adrian Rigby-Bates, Disability Football and Fundraising Manager for the Community Foundation responded:

“Everyone at the Community Foundation would like to say a Big Thank You to Blake Slater for choosing us as their charity partner and the beneficiary of the fabulous £6,100 funds raised at this year’s second Local Gardens Charity Ball. As Disability Football and Fundraising Manager, I am very proud of the opportunities we offer within our local community to over 350 children, young people and adults (Male and Female) with a range of physical and learning disabilities and mental health illness and to senior citizens who are may have dementia, be lonely and living in social isolation. Our provision now includes weekly football/multisport coaching sessions and tournaments for young adults living with a range of disabilities, complex needs and serious mental illness; a Walking Football group for senior citizens and those with dementia and a weekly Drop-in “Sport in Memories” Social Wellbeing Group for people experiencing loneliness and living with social isolation.”

Adrian went on to say:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported the ball by donating raffle and auction prizes helping to raise such invaluable funds for the charity. The ball was a massive success with 115 people attending and the funds will directly benefit those people who access the different types of provision offered by the Disability and Mental Health Programme and support the good work that we do in the local community. Through this provision to a variety of groups, with a range of needs, we have been able to promote healthy lifestyles, which extends opportunity, choice and control – benefitting those attendees physically, socially and emotionally. It has provided volunteering opportunities and for disabled people to take part in physical activity and have fun”.
