Stockport County Community Foundation teamed up with AFC Fylde Community Foundation on Saturday 22nd November and took part in a fantastic initiative organised by the Fylde Community Team. They invited ten children from each Foundation to join them for an action packed day of activities as part of their ‘Special Day’ programme. The day gave the opportunity for ten Stockport children to work alongside ten Fylde children and take part in a range of fun filled pre-match and half-time activities.

Our very excited Stockport County VIPs selected from various Primary Schools in Stockport and wearing their County kits, travelled to Kellamergh Park the home of AFC Fylde. Once everyone had arrived we were met by their Community Foundation manager and staff and informed about the format of the day. The children began by undertaking a warm up routine given by the AFC Fylde community coaches. Once this had been completed it was a head to head series of relay races. After a short break both groups then took part in some great 1v1 games and were then joined by both club mascots and the pre-match activities were completed with a very friendly small sided game!

Just before the kick off between AFC Fylde and Stockport County all the children from both clubs were taken to their seats for the start of the game. They watched a very entertaining 45 minutes of football. At Half Time both groups took part in a penalty shoot out on the pitch and then it was back to their seats for the second half!

A deserved draw in the game concluded a great end to a very ‘Special Day’ for all the children and staff from both Community Foundations and it was then back to the minibus for the return  journey to Stockport.

The Stockport County Community Foundation Manager Dave Wardle said “The group of children and adults that joined us for our ‘Special Day’ had such a great experience and from the moment we arrived at the ground we were looked after and made to feel very welcome by our hosts! This programme demonstrates by working in partnership with our fellow Community Foundation colleagues at AFC Fylde we were able to give a group of children the opportunity to take part in a day they will never forget and that was very ‘Special’ for everyone involved”

The Community Foundation team have received positive feedback from everyone involved and we look forward to welcoming our Stockport County VIPs to Edgeley Park to watch the return fixture on Tuesday 2nd December.
